The Kamono Group
The Dogon people, like so many indigenous peoples, are living in a changing world. Traditional life-ways are disappearing with the new economy, roads and globalization. The lives of the elders differ greatly from those who are middle-aged. And the youth face a future radically different from either their grandmothers or their mothers. The door between the world the children came from and the one they are bound to inherit, has "education" written on it in big letters; thus the "Kamono Group" was formed. It is said, the best way to improve the economic status of people in a developing country is to educate their girls and women. During our recent visit to the Dogon Country in southern Mali, we discovered it costs about $35.00 per year to send one girl to school and Sahara could not resist offering to help them. We hope that you too, will find it irresistible to help these girls. The Kamono Fund is committed to the following goals on behalf of the Dogon people: 1. Supporting girls education in Mali 2. Protecting Girls from FGM (female genital mutilation) 3. Protecting Girls from Forced Marriage |

"The Sol Project" is a 510 (c) 3 and the nonprofit group administering the "Kamono Group" founded by Sahara Sunday Spain on her first visit to Mali in January, 2001when she was only 9 years old. Contributions are tax-deductible to the full extent under the law. During our first visit to the Dogon Country in southern Mali, Sahara discovered it costs about $35.00 to send one girl to school for one year and she could not resist offering to help them.
